Duma turns down bill on zero roaming between Russia, Belarus
MOSCOW, Oct 16 (PRIME) -- Russia’s State Duma, the parliament’s lower house, dismissed on Wednesday in the first reading a bill cancelling roaming inside the country and for Russian subscribers on the territory of Belarus.
The document’s authors, a group of deputies of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) thought the initiative would push connection services to the level of modern global trends, make connection services for Russians when moving inside the country more transparent and affordable, and ensure further development of integration processes between Russia and Belarus.
Neither the Russian government nor the information policy committee of the State Duma supported the bill.
“The decision to cancel roaming on the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union should be made on the level of supra-national regulation with support of the union’s member states,” the government said.
